FIRE PREVENTION POSTER CONTEST
The City-Wide Poster Contest starts on Monday, October 6, 2003 and runs through Monday, January 26, 2004.
Rules are as follows:
- All posters must be original in idea, execution, and design. Reproduction of designs and previously used posters are not acceptable.
- Any color poster board can be used. Size should not exceed 22" x 28" (standard poster size).
- Any two-dimensional media may be used, such as paint, crayons, pastels, colored paper, etc., or any combination of these materials.
- A written message must be included. Lettering must be clearly legible.
- The art teacher's name, school, student's name, grade, home address, and home telephone number must be legibly printed on the back of each poster.
- It will be the responsibility of the art teacher to see that the posters are securely placed in a returnable package to eliminate any loss of artwork.
- The winning poster, together with others selected, may be retained by the Fire Department for promotional display. Six winners will be selected.
- The purpose of this contest is to promote fire prevention in the community by increasing awareness of the general public in the prevention of fires and fire hazards.
- The contest is open to all students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades of all public, private, charter, and parochial schools in Philadelphia (with the exception of the High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (C.A.P.A., who will be involved in their own special billboard project).
- The contest is an important aspect of fire prevention activities, and will run from Monday, October 6, 2003, through Monday, January 26, 2004. Teachers should contact Firefighter Harry Perez at (215 686-1382) when posters are ready for pick up, but no later than Monday, January 26, 2004.
- The Philadelphia Fire Department will make final judging in February, 2004 by the Citizens' Fire Prevention Committee. Winners and their schools will be notified regarding time and date of the award ceremony.
- First place winner will receive $100.00 cash, an engraved plaque, and a t-shirt with the artwork printed on it. First place student's school will be presented with the prestigious City-Wide Poster Contest Trophy to be displayed in the school for one year. The name of the student and school will be inscribed on the trophy. The art teacher will receive a $75.00 gift certificate for art supplies.
- Second place winner will receive $75.00 cash, an engraved plaque, and a t-shirt with the artwork printed on it. A $50.00 gift certificate will be awarded to the art teacher for art supplies.
- Third place winner will receive $50.00 cash and an engraved plaque. A $25.00 gift certificate will be given to the art teacher for art supplies.
- Honorable mentions will each receive an engraved plaque for their entries. Art teachers will receive a gift certificate for art supplies. All entries will receive a Certificate of Merit from the Philadelphia Fire Department.
